Solidworks Project- "Lenny" binoculars from Toy Story

Lenny is the character in "Toy Story" the Disney Pixar movie. He is a pair of wind up binoculars. I found pictures online of different angles of the actual toy to recreate him in solid works.

I picked to do Lenny as my project because my sorority had a Toy Story theme for homecoming. We watched the movie again after many years for ideas to incorporate in our float and I fell in love with the adorable binoculars all over again.
The most difficult part about this project was probable his rounded surfaces. He was really hard to make extruded cuts into circular faces but I ended up solving this problem by simply moving the plane into the object and extruded cutting it outward and that worked out a lot better for me.
I had so much fun doing this project. I love doing Solidworks, the more you learn the more things you can make and I just think it's really neat. Some things I learned (besides the basics such as loft, extrude and revolve) during this particular project was the dome feature (eyes, end of binocular holes, end of binocular eye holes) it really makes some object look more like a real molding. Another thing I learned was liner pattern (dial at the top of binoculars) it made it so much easier to do multiple extruded cuts in a circular object. The last thing I learned which gave me a lot of problems was how to mirror an object. The entire time I wanted to mirror the eyes and it kept giving me problems but when I finally came to the feet I tried to mirror again and I realized it was just a matter of unchecking a box that said "merge entities". Other than that I did have fun and I think my rendering of the toy came out great. If I had more time I would have liked to animated him so that he could wind up and make his feet move.
